League Of St. Maur
The League of St. Maur is a private membership providing ongoing support to further the mission of Maur Hill - Mount Academy. Founded by Fr. Edwin Watson, OSB, in 1965, the League fizzled out in the 1990s. President Phil Baniewicz brought it back to life in 2010, and it continues to grow to this day.
Any individual or married couple is eligible to join the League of St. Maur and can join annually at one of five levels: Platinum ($5,000), Gold ($2,500), or Silver ($1,000), and now two new entry levels: Copper ($500) and Jr. Raven/young professional ($250). The elite annual giving level is the President's Circle at $10,000 and above. New members are being added regularly to these essential groups that set the foundation for the ongoing success of MH - MA. If you haven't joined, there has never been a better time. Learn more. The League also holds an annual event honoring school supporters with the Fidelis Award.

Alumni of the Year
Maur Hill-Mount Academy will also recognize Dan Pombo as this year’s “Alumni of the Year” honoree for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the school. Dan, originally from St. Joseph, MO, came to Maur Hill-Mount Academy as a boarding student after a recommendation from childhood friend, Steve Bartulica. This decision changed Dan’s life. Looking back, he says, “It was incredible going to school with students from all over the world and experiencing their cultures in small town Kansas. I love coming back for reunions and fundraising events to see everyone again. MH-MA is such a special place.” Dan’s younger sister, Maki, followed in his footsteps and attended Mount St. Scholastica.
After Maur Hill, Dan attended Amherst College in Massachusetts for his undergrad and received his law degree from Northwestern. After realizing corporate law wasn’t for him, Dan dove into finance, taking him to a banking career at J.P. Morgan. He is currently serving as the managing director and head of restructuring in their investment banking division in New York City. During his career, Dan has been instrumental in aiding the bankruptcy relief of California’s largest electric utility, as well as Toys R Us and South America’s largest airline, LATAM.
Phil Baniewicz comments “Dan’s professional career helping companies is a huge asset to Maur Hill-Mount Academy as he serves on the Board of Directors, aids in our strategic planning, and is just a phone call away for advice and help. He is very deserving of the Alumni of the Year award!”
In his free time, Dan enjoys spending time with his five children as well as playing golf and skiing.
The League of St. Maur is a private membership that provides ongoing support to further the mission of Catholic education at Maur Hill-Mount Academy. The annual dinner is the largest fundraising event for the school and is where they honor distinguished supporters and alumni of MH-MA.
